Arianna Zapelloni Pavia studied classical Archaeology at the University of Rome „La Sapienza“ where she obtained her MA degree in Roman Archaeology. In 2020 she defended her PhD at the University of Michigan, with the dissertation project „Cultural Change in the Religious Landscape of Ancient Umbria between the 6th and the 1st centuries BCE.“ She now works at the Institute of Classical Archaeology as a Post-Doc. In her book project, she demonstrates that Umbrian indigenous population maintained extent local architectural and ritual customs, while at the same time responding and adapting to the new socio-political realities that accompanied Roman hegemony.

Arianna has participated on several international projects in Italy, namely at Pietrabbondante, Canosa di Puglia, Pompeii, and in the Roman Forum, and complemented her studies with one semester at University of Amsterdam (2009). Her research focuses on the effects of Roman expansion on local religious traditions, as visible in particular from votive deposits. Since 2013, she has worked as a trench supervisor for the Gabii Project, located outside of Rome, and as a member of the research group of the Regia Revised Project, led by Nic Terrenato, University of Michigan and Paolo Brocato (Università di Calabria).
